Goodbye, February.
// February 28th, 2010 // Budget, Couponing, Life in General, Money Matters, Work at Home
Well, February is over, bringing an end to my 2nd month of trying to live within a budget and to the first month of Nix9t05. February brought good news on both counts. We are cutting expenses and saving nearly $400 month on groceries, and we’ve paid off two debts, freeing up an additional $500. I’m at least $900/month closer to reaching my goal of replacing my income so that I can stay home with Bear next year.
As for Nix9to5, I’ve been able to pretty consistently keep up with blogging, and I’ve submitted my first guest post to another blog. I’ve also been hired at another writing company, even though I haven’t actually had time to start working, and I have another possible prospect for online tutoring.
Thanks to all of my readers who have joined me at the beginning of this journey. Now that winter is ending, I’m excited to see what Spring has in store.

Good on you, babe, hope the trek ends at the top. I went free-lance three years ago – scary at the out-set, but sooo worth it in the long-run. Hang in there, and hold your ground, especially when you start to get comfortable. (Do not, for instance, sign off on a limited-edition Arlen Ness Victory Vegas when things take an up-swing. I now refer to this as ‘the danger zone’.) Make friends with your slow-cooker and freezer, and you’re six ways to golden. God bless, love, I’m totally in your corner.
Slow cooker–check. Freezer–check. Arlen Ness Victory Vegas refusal–check.
Now if I could just get that pesky income thing taken care of. Any advice for getting the freelance business rolling?
The best advice I can give is say ‘no’ to NPOs. I can rationalize my charity gigs six ways toward the weekend, but they don’t put food on the table. And when you’re working your ass off for a good cause, you’re not out trying to find paying jobs. That’s probably not very helpful, but it’s incredibly easy to get sucked into that vortex.
